FACILITIES

The A.C. Ward facility in West Des Moines encompasses iron removal, softening, filtration and disinfection in its treatment process, which produces up to 10 million gallons per day (MGD) of safe drinking water.

The L.D. McMullen Treatment Plant can pump 25 million gallons per day (MGD). Its proximity next to the Maffitt Reservoir provides a sediment-free and low-nitrate source of water for treatment.

The Fleur Drive facility is the region’s flagship plant and has the capacity to pump 75 million gallons per day (MGD). Its campus includes the nitrate removal facility, which can remove nitrate from up to 10 million gallons of water a day.

Polk City Water Treatment Plant produces an average of 425,000 gallons per day. This facility includes an iron filtration removal system that treats water from three alluvial wells in the Pennsylvania aquifer. 

The City of Grimes has two water treatment facilities and uses lime softening and reverse osmosis processes. Water from the plants is blended in an in-ground storage reservoir and then stored to supply water to the Grimes community. 

The Saylorville Water Treatment Plant pumps 10 million gallons per day (MGD). It uses ultra filtration membranes and reverse osmosis to clean water for drinking. The expanded plant will produce 20 MGD.
