The water treatment process is essential to ensuring clean, safe, reliable drinking water is produced and delivered to Central Iowans. The collectively owned treatment operations held by Central Iowa Water Works use source water from the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers as well as from deep aquifer wells.  Raw water is sampled and tested daily prior to treatment.

CIWW's laboratory at Des Moines Water Works is the most complex utility lab in the state. Investments in critical infrastructure provide the system's water treatment experts with the equipment and technology needed to test and treat raw source water for any known issues.

Each year, water producers are required to develop water quality assessments known as Consumer Confidence Reports. See these reports at the links  below.

CIWW does not replace local water utilities, rural providers or city water departments. They remain the contacts for new accounts, bill-paying and customer service. Find your local provider here.
